Bible Gateway 11 - Copywriting as a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 11 - Copywriting as another Bible Gateway
.

If you make any attempts to reach people through your writing, you would do well to learn some copywriting skills.

Why?

1 Corinthians 14:39-41 (NKJV):
39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

To do less is "to do less."

No pun intended ...

There are many excellent copywriters, tons of excellent resources, and they are extremely easy to locate on the Internet. My advice, though, is to pick one person to 'study' - and stick with it.

And - OF COURSE - the number One Source to follow is the inspiration of God as He gives you the words to say through His Holy Spirit. A copywriter can merely also help you phrase and arrange those words for maximum impact for your audience.

Bible Gateway 10 - Honor as a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 10 - Honor as Your Bible Gateway
.

Do you understand that you'll NEVER be able to call anything 'your own' except your word. (If you don't believe me, just stop paying for something. Someone will come get it and return it to its owner.)

Honor is a Bible Gateway, as are so many other aspects and behaviors.

Like it or not ... believe it or not ... people are watching you. They watch how you speak, how you treat others, and even how you behave in traffic!

If you give people mixed signals, they'll say you talk the talk but can't and don't walk the walk.

That's a bad thing.

What does God say about honor? His Word is His love letter and instructions to us, so let's take a quick peek at what He says about it ...

Hmmmm ... the word 'honor' is mentioned 179 times in the NKJV. I never want to overwhelm people with all the verses. But I do think there is significance in what He says first and last ... so let's look ...

The first time in the Old Testament:

Genesis 34:18-20 (NKJV):
18 And their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor’s son. 19 So the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob’s daughter. He was more honorable than all the household of his father. 20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and spoke with the men of their city, saying:

(Look up all the times 'honor' is used in the Book of Proverbs.)

The last time in the Old Testament:

Malachi 1:5-7 (NKJV):
5 Your eyes shall see, And you shall say, ‘ The LORD is magnified beyond the border of Israel.’ 6 “ A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’ 7 “ You offer defiled food on My altar, But say, ' In what way have we defiled You?’ By saying, ‘ The table of the LORD is contemptible.’

The first time in the New Testament:

Matthew 13:56-58 (NKJV):
56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” 57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

The last time in the New Testament:

Revelation 21:25-27 (NKJV):
25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Well - if God mentions honor (in the NKJV) 179 times ... and it's in both the first and last Books of His Word ... would you say that it's important to Him?

God Bless you –

Bible Gateway 9 - Forgiveness as a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 9 - Forgiveness is a Bible Gateway
.

Just as the Ten Commandments are NOT the Ten Suggestions ... God is serious about forgiveness.

People get hurt every day out in the world (sad.)

People get hurt every day in churches (tragic.)

You have to forgive others, and you have to forgive yourself.

To embrace the various Bible Gateways, there are certain principles you have to embrace through faith. God reveals what He wants revealed ... as we're able to embrace it.

He also keeps things hidden for reasons He calls His own.

Forgiveness is mentioned in the first Book of the Bible:

Genesis 50:16-18 NKJV:
16 So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died he commanded, saying, 17 ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.”’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

(and 98 more times in the NKJV ... 47 in the Old Testament and 42 times in the New Testament)

Here's the first mention in the New Testament ...

Matthew 6: 11-13 NKJV:
11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Here's and the last time in the New Testament:

1 John 2:11-13:
11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 12 I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father.

So - it apprenty worked. Look at the verb tenses in 1 John above ... are forgiven (present) ... have known and have overcome (past.)

As I said at the onset of this post, there are certain principles you have to embrace through faith. If God mentions forgiveness 99 times, starting at the first Book of the Bible, do you think forgiveness is pretty important to Him?

It's another Bible Gateway.

God Bless you –

Bible Gateway 8 - Tithe as a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 8 - The Tithe as a Bible Gateway
.

I'll probably agitate some people here by addressing this subject - but that's OK. Jesus was the greatest Agitator Who ever lived ... and we're supposed to try to be like Him - right?

And remember that it's my position that lots of things, people, events, and other circumstances can be a gateway to the Bible. The best Bible Gateway will always be God's Word - because it's infallible. That said, lots of other ways are still important Bible Gateways ...

Well - what does the Word of God say about the tithe?

How can a tithe be a Bible Gateway?

The Word of God is the ultimate Judge because it's the Word of God ... and the Word says a title is "a tenth."

***************************************************************

- In The Old Testament -
***************************************************************

In the very first Book in the Bible, in Genesis 14:20, Abraham did it ... "And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all."

(Abraham was a "Big Guy" to God ... Abraham even has his own covenant named after him.)

In the Book of Leviticus - in 27:30 - "And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's. It is holy to the Lord."

In 27:32 - "And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord."

In The Book of Numbers - in 18:26 - "Speak thus to the Levites, and say to them: 'When you take from the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them as your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it to the Lord, a tenth of the tithe."

In The Book of Deuteronomy - in 12:17 - "You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain or your new wine or your oil, of the firstborn of your herd or your flock, of any of your offerings which you vow, of your freewill offerings, or of the heave offering of your hand."

In 14:22 - "You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year."

In 14:23 - "And you shall eat before the Lord your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always."

In 14:24 - "But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you,"

In 14:28 - "At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates."

In 26:12-13 - "When you have finished laying aside all the tithe of your increase in the third year--the year of tithing--and have given it to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they may eat within your gates and be filled, then you shall say before the Lord your God: 'I have removed the holy tithe from my house, and also have given them to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all Your commandments which You have commanded me; I have not transgressed Your commandments, nor have I forgotten them."

In The Book of 2 Chronicles in 31:5-6 - "As soon as the commandment was circulated, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of grain and wine, oil and honey, and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in abundantly the tithe of everything. And the children of Israel and Judah, who dwelt in the cities of Judah, brought the tithe of oxen and sheep; also the tithe of holy things which were consecrated to the Lord their God they laid in heaps."

In The Book of Nehemiah 13:12 - "Then all Judah brought the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the storehouse."

And here's a BIGGIE from Malachi 3:7-12 -

7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you," Says the Lord of hosts. "But you said, 'In what way shall we return?' 8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," Says the Lord of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 "And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field," Says the Lord of hosts; 12 "And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land," Says the Lord of hosts.

(That's a pretty strong statement God used to send His people into the 400-year intertestimental period between the Old Testament and the New Testament - wouldn't you agree? Think the tithe was important in the Old Testament to God?)

***************************************************************
- In The New Testament -
***************************************************************

In The Book of Matthew in 23:23 - "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone."

In The Book of Luke in 11:42 - "But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone."

Well - there you have it - all the references to the tithe in the New King James Version of the Bible. Lots of people focus on Malachi 3 above because God plainly says. "If you don't tithe, you rob Me."

Think the tithe is a Bible Gateway?

Bible Gateway 7 - Faith is The Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 7 - Faith is The Bible Gateway
.

Believer or non-believer ... everyone has faith ... in "something."

Believers have faith in the Lord ... non-believers have faith in 'the world."

What does the Word of God say? Do we need faith in Him or not?

In Romans 10:7 - " So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

[So - we know that faith comes though hearing (and hearing again) the word of God.]

In Romans 12:3 - "For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a [perfect] measure of faith. "

[So we know God has given us the perfect amount of faith.]

In Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not [yet] seen."

[So - we know that faith is both a substance, and eveidence ... both 'physical' forms.]

Let's summarize so far - faith comes by hearing, we have the perfect amount of it, it's physical (both substance and evidence) ... so we can know that we have it (or don't.)

Well - what happens if we DON'T have it (faith)?

In Hebews 11:6 - "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

So - is faith important to God? You decide ...

Bible Gateway 6 - Your Purpose is a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 6 - Your "Purpose" is a Bible Gateway
.

As we've discussed before, anything that leads you to the Bible is a Bible Gateway. I don't so narrowly define 'Bible Gateway' as just a phrase or a website that shows people a Bible translation.

The Bible is God's Word for us today ... His love letter to us.

Your "purpose" in life is clearly explained in your Bible. It is your first responsibility to find it, and your second responsibility to make it your personal mission (AKA obey.)

According to Pastor Rick Warren, who wrote "Your Purpose Driven Life"
(http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/) ... you have five distinct aspects to your purpose, as practiced in Acts 2, explained in Ephesians 4, and modeled by Jesus in John 17:

1. "Love God with all your heart"

2. "Love your neighbor as yourself"

3. "Go and make disciples"

4. "Baptize them into ..."

5. "Teach them to do all things"

As Pastor Rick comments, "A great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will make you a great Christian."

Bible Gateway 5 - Jesus is The Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 5 - Jesus is The Ultimate Bible Gateway
.

Yes - Jesus can be a Bible Gateway ... just as the Bible can be a Gateway to Jesus.

The Bible is God's Word for us ... so we cannot separate God from His Word. If you see Jesus in someone and that inspires you to learn more by reading a Bible - it worked, didn't it?

There are lots of different prayers - so be ready with the appropriate prayer for your circumstances when you feel led to do so. Whether you're praying for yourself or someone else ... just have a chat with God.

You cannot say anything He hasn't heard before. You cannot show any emotions that confuse Him. After all, He created all your emotions so you could express yourself to Him.

So - here's another prayer my Dad sent me for you to look at, and see if it might fit a need on your life today. If not today - one day it will - so perhaps consider printing it out for your future use.

******************************************************************

Please take a moment to relax your mind and humble your heart to focus on the Christ. Allow God to be the only person on your mind while you read this prayer.

If we can take the time to read long jokes, stories, etc., we should give the same respect to this prayer.

Friends, who pray together, stay together.

----- - ----- - ----- - ----- - ----- - ----- - ----- - -----

Dear Lord, I thank you for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God.

You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.

Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over.

Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrong doing and receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example, to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart.

Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others.

I pray for those who are lost and can't find their way.

I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those who will delete this without sharing it with others. I pray for those who don't believe.

But I thank you that I believe.

I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly.

This is my prayer.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Just repeat this phrase and see how God moves!

"Lord I love you and I need you, come into my heart, please. Pass this message on. Don't ignore this prayer and God will bless you."

Bible Gateway 4 - John 3:16, 17 as a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 4 - John 3:16, 17 as a Bible Gateway
.

A Bible Gateway is anything that brings you to God. A gateway is any entrance.

And God is not so narrow that He can only use one ...

Yes of course - the Bible itself, per se, is an optimal Bible Gateway.

Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (BIBLE) ...

I suppose that everyone who has ever read their Bible with some level of interest and passion has found some Scriptures they would call "their favorites."

I have too many to list ... ;-) ...

Here's a good Scripture for everyone, and it lays a solid foundation for anyone finding this blog who does NOT yet have a firm Bible foundation. It's John 3:16 and 17 ...

John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

If you never remember another Scripture - please remember that one. It tells God's vision and Jesus' mission all in one statement. One statement about you ...

Bible Gateway 3 - Prayer as a Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 3 - Prayer as a Bible Gateway
.

There is no substitute for prayer. You don't have to be all fancy and eloquent, either. Just open your mouth and pour out your heart to God. He says things about your weakness ...

2 Corinthians 12:9 - “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Here's another wonderful piece my Dad sent me. I hope it makes you think and consider ...

Simple Daily prayer: "Please God, put your arms around my shoulders and your hand over my mouth."

Some Thoughts for Your Day:

Many people will walk in and out of your life. But only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.

To handle yourself, use your head;

To handle others, use your heart.

Anger is only one letter short of danger.

If someone betrays you once, it is his fault; If he betrays you twice, it is your fault.

Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people.

He, who loses money, loses much; He, who loses a friend, loses much more; He, who loses faith, loses all.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature.

Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

We started our group - Our circle of friends - There is no beginning or end ...

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift. Show your friends how much you care .

THERE IS NO PSYCHIATRIST IN THE WORLD LIKE A PUPPY LICKING YOUR FACE OR A PURRING KITTEN CURLED UP IN YOUR LAP...

God is in the simple pleasures, too ... get to know Him.

God Bless you –

Bible Gateway 2 - Washington, DC Bible Gateway

.
Bible Gateway 2 - Washington, DC Bible Gateway
.

Here's a story that my Dad sent me about Washington, DC as a Bible Gateway . I hope you find it as fascinating as I do:

LAUS DEO: A little history lesson you may enjoy.

I thought that you and others may like to see this. One detail that is not mentioned, in DC, is that there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument. With all the uproar about removing the ten commandments, etc...

This is worth a moment or two of your time.

I was not aware of this historical information. On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington, DC, are displayed two words: Laus Deo. No one can see these words. In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less.

Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will want to share this with everyone you know. But these words have been there for many years; they are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched top the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America.

Laus Deo!

Two seemingly insignificant, un-noticed words. Out of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world.

So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, possibly mean?

Very simply, they say "Praise be to God!"

"Though construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo ..............Praise be to God!"

From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments.

From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles l'Enfant...a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape, with the White House to the north.

The Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.

A cross you ask? Why a cross?

What about separation of church and state?

Yes, a cross; separation of church and state was not, is not, in the Constitution.

So, read on. How interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry a profound meaning for those who bother to notice. Praise be to God!

Within the monument itself are 898 steps and 50 landings. As one climbs the steps and pauses at the landings the memorial stones share a message. On the 12th Landing is a prayer offered by the City of Baltimore; on the 20th is a memorial presented by some Chinese Christians; on the 24th a presentation made by Sunday School children from New York and Philadelphia quoting Proverbs 10:7, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6. Praise be to God!

When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy .."One Nation, Under God."

I am awed by Washington's prayer for America. Have you never read it?

Well, now is your unique opportunity, so read on!

"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection ! and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large.

And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

"Laus Deo!"

When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nation's capitol, he or she will easily find the signature of God, as it is unmistakably inscribed everywhere you look.

You may forget the width and height of "Laus Deo", its location, or the architects but no one who reads this will be able to forget its meaning, or these words:

"Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." (Psalm 127: 1)

Bible Gateway 1 - Your Intro to Bible Gateway Blog
.

This Bible Gateway Blog blog is set up as a way to discuss all things about the Bible. I named it 'Bible Gateway Blog' because there is more than one way gateway to get to God in the sense of the media. But Jesus is the only way to God in the Spiritual sense.

In John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. ""

Let me clarify something here ... this Bible Gateway Blog is a place to discuss all things POSITIVE about the Bible. If you arrived here hoping to find information that is negative about the Bible ... well, thanks for stopping by any way ... but you're definitely in the wrong place.

We'll discuss the Books of the Bible, Bible stories in the lives of people today, positive testimonies of God's goodness in the lives of His people, other related topics and stories, etc., in this Bible Gateway Blog.

Here's Point Number One:
God is good all the time, and His mercy endures forever.
